What's Strange Tales #110 worth in 2025?
Strange Tales #110 was Marvel's first true entry into magic and as such is viewed as a seminal work of the era. Fans waited nearly 40 years from the 1978 attempt to bring Doctor Strange to light in the TV movie that famously missed the mark. They would finally get a treatment worth watching in 2016 with the portrayal given by actor, Benedict Cumberbatch. This caused the value of this issue to soar to record highs and has since settled down...some. With his popularity still at an all-time high and a second film in the works there's probably not going to be a chance to get any bargains anytime soon. Looking at what has happened with these values from 2013 when the film was announced till now will shed a lot more light on the subject. Prior to the film you could pick up a GD 2.0 for as little as $100. That same book has settled to around $800 now from nearly $1,000 in 2016. Likewise with a FN 6.0, now it will bring $2,800 down from nearly $4,000 in 2018 and just $1,000 in 2012. The premium grade of NM+ 9.6 enjoyed a tremendous increase as the highest recorded grade. It sold for nearly $45,000 in 2013 and the last recorded sale was 2016 when it brought $60,000. That was down $6,000 from the previously recorded sale of $66,000 in 2014. With the success of the Avengers Infinity and Endgame storylines and the fact another movie is on the horizon this is most likely just a lull in the increase. In fact this is probably the last chance one might get to pick up one of these books in this price range at all.
Why is this comic book valuable?
Strange Tales #110 brought the "Master of Black Magic", according to the splash page, to us for the first time, you know him as Doctor Strange. Another facet of the Marvel renaissance of characters that Stan Lee would usher in. Legendary artist known for his work on the Amazing Spider-man, Steve Ditko came up with the idea to take a completely new character in a direction that had not yet been explored. Sorcery and the mystical unknown that was magic! The issue would also introduce the world to the Ancient One, Nightmare and last but not least, Wong, Strange's long time friend and valet, also a Master of the Mystic Arts. The concept was an instant hit with young people, especially the college crowd, who were experimenting with new things and looking at the world in a new way. Ditko's visuals were surreal compared to everything else in the genre at the time and Lee's mystical vocabulary conjured up questions about history and mythology alike. It wasn't long before the team realized that they had built something that was going to last.
