Exciting Comics was first released in April 1940 by Nedor. It originally featured several stories with some of the first “superheroes” or vigilantes fighting terrorists, foreign forces, etc. Some of the characters that made their debut in these pages are The Mask, The Black Terror, and The American Eagle, amongst others. The issues were received positively by the audience, a little tired of the same old WWII stories. The series managed to survive during wartime, including some stories about the mentioned heroes fighting Nazi or Japanese forces, but it wasn’t the center of the issue. Exciting Comics was released until 1949, when it was finally canceled by Better Publications, some years after getting the rights for the comic.
