What's New Mutants #98 worth in 2025?

This book remained relatively unnoticed for several years until 1997 when writers Joe Kelly, who debuted with the all-new Deadpool title, and Christopher Priest established Deadpool as the "funny", fourth wall breaking assassin that he is known as today. The book began to move up in value over the next decade. Then the film rumors started and things went supersonic. Currently you can purchase low grade copies for around $100. A CGC graded FN 6.0 will run you $250. The numbers move quickly upwards along with the grades. CGC 9.6 NM+ pulling in $1,000 or more and CGC 9.8 NM/MT breaking $3,500!

Why is this comic book valuable?

February 1991 would usher in a new era...eventually. New Mutants 98, by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, introduced Deadpool as a supervillain with superhuman agility and healing factor. Initially the book that contained the first appearance of "The Merc with a Mouth", a.k.a. Deadpool, would fly quietly under the radar for almost a decade. Born in the shadow of the mutant mania that was all things "X", the hot book in the New Mutants series at the time was New Mutants #87, the first appearance of Cable. Nathan Summers, the son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor from the future, was taking the world by storm. The two would team-up in 2004 in Cable and Deadpool #1. In 1997 writer Joe kelly, followed by Christopher Priest, would script Deadpool in the self titled series that would introduce the world to the fourth wall breaking, "funny" assassin we all know and love.
