What's Human Torch #2 worth in 2025?
Human Torch Comics #1, numbered #2 as explained below, is the origin and 1st appearance of Toro. Toro appeared in numerous comics titles in the 1940s, both during World War II and the post-war era as the young fire clad hero apprenticed to Human Torch. The highest recorded sale of this book is a NM 9.4 copy that sold for $92,000 in 2009. There are two copies garded NM+ 9.6 that have never been recorded as sold that could bring 3x the number of the 9.4 given the market we are in right now. In anything but the highest grades this book has held relatively stead for the better part of the last decade. A 6.0 FN went for around $6,500 in 2012 and almost exactly the same in 2017, the last recorded sale of this grade. Increased value for a book this rare is an inevitability not a question. In 2018 a VG 4.0 sold for $8,900 which was nearly double the $5,000 it pulled in 2011.
Why is this comic book valuable?
Ok, so, this is a little complicated but bear with us. If you are holding a Human Torch Comics #2 in your hand right now you are actually holding a Human Torch Comics #1. Here's how it works. In August 1940 Timely hit the newsstands with Red Raven Comics #1, a winged "super-man" dressed in red. Yeah, not the best idea since there was already a Superman without bizarre bright red wings that could fly, and bend steel and well you get the picture. So with issue number two they simply changed the name of the book and took the newly popular Human Torch and gave him his own adventures. He would co-star with Sub-mariner again in this new issue as he had previously in Marvel Mystery Comics.
