The mint condition value of Detective Comics #58 is approximately $15,000. A Near Mint 9.4 sold in May 2005 for $14,950, and is the highest CGC rated copy to sell publicly to date. An unretouched 8.5 sold for $5,676 in May 2008 and later that year in November an unretouched 8.0 sold for $$3,346. A live auction in January 2020 put the value of an unretouched 6.0 at $22,000. The most expensive Dectective Comics #58 to ever sell was a 9.4 rated pedigree from The Promise Collection which went for $44,400 in September 2021.

Detective Comics #58 holds its value for the first appearance of The Penguin, as well as the last edition of the Speed Saunders storyline. Published by D.C. Comics in December 1941, Oswald Cobblepot (also Mr. Boniface and The Penguin,) concocts a scheme to pin the robbery of multiple pieces of priceless art on Bruce Wayne/Batman. Commissioner Gordon has no choice but to issue a warrant for his arrest!
