What's Detective Comics #4 worth in 2024?
Initial editions of Detective Comics are remarkably scarce to find. The record sale for one still today is for $15,600 which was for an VG+ 4.5-graded copy. Interestingly, because this book is so scarce, a low grade GD 2.0-grade copy was sold for $1,912 in Febuary 2016. This is the only time this grade ever appeared in the comic book market.
Why is this comic book valuable?
After Batman made his splash in Detective Comics in later issues many collectors are seeking out these earlier issues. Sadly not many are still out there. This makes many of these earlier issues are hard to find which of course makes them more sought after. This issue features cover art by Creig Flessel and interior art done by Flessel and Joe Shuster who went on to be 1/2 of the creator Superman. A nice find for collectors.
