Interesting Facts

Having the issue published by April 12th, the cover art was set to the month of July. The cover portraits a haunting Batman with the caption of “The Origin Of Batman”. The cover artists for it were Bob Kane, Charles Paris & Ira Schnapp. The issue was inked by Charles Paris and written by Bill Finger. 

Story Synopsis

Catwoman manages to escape from jail in a marvelous way, and as soon as she is free again, she finds that she could take advantage of the fashion trends, and use them as her new crime theme. Getting to pose as the manager of a very important fashion magazine, Catwoman gets access to the houses of many wealthy people, where she ends up stealing from them. Batman and Robin investigate the case and they deduce that Catwoman has been posing as the magazine manager. The Dynamic Duo learn about a fashion exhibition and they decide to go to the place to defeat Catwoman.

Batman #47 was first seen in 1948. It has since sold for some high prices, peaking at $10,251 for an 8.5 copy in 2017. At the lower end of quality, a 2.5-grade copy sold for $1188 in 2018. That means that currently, you could expect a 6.0 copy to be worth around $2500.

Why is this comic book valuable?


Part of the value of issue #47 stems from the content. It includes “The Origin of the Batman!” which hashes out Bruce Wayne’s backstory more than had been seen before, and it reveals Joe Chill as the man who murdered Bruce’s parents.
