Story Synopsis


Fifteen years ago, Bruce Wayne was walking home from a movie with his father Thomas Wayne and his mother. They are approached by a mugger who tries to grab his mother's necklace. Then proceeds to shoot Bruce’s parents. Later on, he swears by the spirit of his parents to avenge their deaths. Years pass and he becomes a master scientist with uncomparable physical capacity, ready to start warring criminals, disguising himself as a big black bat and becoming every criminal’s terror, under the name of BATMAN, 

Why is this comic book valuable?


Batman #1 is valuable for multiple reasons. First, it is the first comic dedicated to the exploits of the Caped Crusader. Second, this issue would also introduce the Cat, renamed Catwoman in the next issue, and Batman's nemesis, the Joker! One would become his love interest and the other would come to represent the dark side of Gotham! There are a total of 266 copies registered with the CGC Census. Over half (148) of these copies contain restoration or are incomplete. This leaves just 118 issues of Batman #1 unrestored!

What's Batman #1 worth in 2021?


As of today there has never been a mint copy of Batman #1 reported. The highest graded copy on record is a CGC NM- 9.2. GPA reports this book sold for $560,000 in the summer of 2013. It is easy to imagine that if a CGC NM+ 9.6 were to come to market today it might easily bring $1,500,000 or more. A mid grade copy CGC VG/F 5.0 sold for $44,000 in 2009 and just ten years later brought $204,000. A lower grade copy CGC GD 2.0 recently sold for $96,000 recently but brought a mere $16,000 in 2009.
