Top Notch Comics was first released in December 1939 and it was a huge success at the time.
Although the first issues featured Wizard as the main character, the appearance of The Black Hood was the main attraction for the comics, and was what made the series famous.
The issues were released every month, and a total of 45 books were released before the series was canceled for the publisher to dedicate more time to the Archie comics.
